What we do
1Spot Work runs a local marketplace that connects customers in Toronto & the GTA with independent, background-checked workers (“Spotters”) for unskilled tasks only — cleaning, moving & hauling, assembly & mounting, yard & outdoor work, light handyman jobs, errands, office, event & business support, and seasonal work. We arrange the booking, keep the check-in and sign-off record, and handle payment. We never offer or arrange licensed-trade work such as electrical, plumbing, gas, or structural work.
Choosing a Spotter
When you book, you can choose a Spotter from those shown for your service, or ask 1Spot to match you. Choosing a Spotter is a request: we confirm their availability, the time and the all-in price with you before anything is booked. If your chosen Spotter can't make it, we'll offer another or let you cancel at no charge.
Rates, pricing & booking
Spotters set their own hourly rates, never below $25 an hour. Flat prices on this site are starting estimates. Your full, final price — based on your Spotter's rate and the size of the job — is confirmed with you before anything is booked, and nothing is scheduled until you approve it.
A one-time $10 registration fee applies to a new customer's first job and is included in that job's final price; it doesn't apply to any later job.
Our fees
1Spot Work is paid by a matching fee taken from the price of each completed job before the Spotter is paid: 15% on hourly jobs and 20% on flat-rate jobs. Customers pay the confirmed price plus the one-time registration fee; there are no other booking fees. It's free for Spotters to apply and to browse jobs.
The Sign-Off Promise
You pay only after you've signed off that the job is complete. If something isn't right, don't sign off: contact us from the job and we'll work with you and your Spotter to resolve it before any payment is made.
Seniors & accessibility pricing
Customers aged 65 or over, and customers who are persons with a disability, receive 25% off services priced $20 or more. The discount doesn't apply to services priced under $20, to the one-time $10 registration fee, or in combination with another discount. Tell us when you book — we take you at your word and don't ask for documents.
Equipment & supplies
Equipment, tools, accessories and supplies are provided by the customer. That includes cleaning products and equipment, lawn and garden tools, ladders, hand and power tools, bags, boxes, salt and any consumables the job needs. Spotters bring themselves and their skills. If something needed isn't available when the Spotter arrives, the job may have to be rescheduled — so let us know what you have when you book.
Jobs board & Spotter profiles
Open jobs may appear on our jobs board so Spotters can express interest. It shows only the type of work, neighbourhood, date, estimated hours, estimated pay and a short note written by our staff. Spotter profiles show only a first name and last initial, neighbourhood, rates, a short bio, rating and number of jobs done, and only for Spotters who have agreed to be shown.
Payment
Payment is never handled between customers and Spotters — Spotters do not accept cash, card, or e-transfer on 1Spot Work's behalf, and customers should decline if one ever asks. Once the Spotter has checked in and the customer has signed off that the job is complete, the customer pays 1Spot Work by Interac e-transfer to payment@1spotwork.com. 1Spot Work then pays the Spotter their rate less the matching fee. This site doesn't process or store payment card information.
Ratings
After signing off on a completed job, customers are asked to rate their Spotter from one to five stars and can leave a short comment. Only customers with a signed-off job can rate. Ratings are averaged on the Spotter's profile; they aren't published with the customer's name.
Cancellations & changes
To reschedule or cancel, contact us as soon as you can at info@1spotwork.com or 647.794.5275. Specific rescheduling details are confirmed when your job is scheduled.
Spotters
Every Spotter is background-checked before being placed on a job. Spotters are independent: they are not employees of 1Spot Work or of the customer, they choose which jobs to accept and set their own rates, and they are responsible for their own taxes. 1Spot Work reports Spotter earnings to the Canada Revenue Agency as required for digital platforms.
